The ChainLink blockchain is a highly advanced software that enables smart contracts on several networks. It connects the key resources with the smart contracts and helps them gain value from most of the use cases. For over three years now, Bitcoin and Ethereum has benefited from the creation of secure oracles, helping critical external data feeds get connected with various networks and their smart contracts to initiate and roll out numerous systems outside the chain. They are working toward connecting the smart contracts securely to the data outside the chain and APIs along with popular payment modes that are crucial for most of the real use cases.
Traditional legal agreements and centrally automated digital agreements would be replaced by smart contracts that will be increasingly preferred by businesses across many industries in the near future. Manual actions from the parties entering the contract or automated systems that retrieve and update changes made on the contract require performance verification and execution. However, the blockchains on which the smart contracts run, don’t support native communication with external systems as their underlying consensus protocols preventing them from doing so.
A new functionality, called an oracle, deals effectively with this problem as it provides the necessary connectivity to the outside world. Most of the oracles in use today are centralized services that can be compared to other centrally operated conventional digital agreements and smart contracts. Using such services will have just one point of failure, which exposes them to high levels of risk. Gaining external connectivity is very important for contracts and this is where ChainLink provided the solution with on-chain components along with the software running the nodes of the network.
A more efficient off-chain consensus mechanism and a simple on-chain contract data aggregation system are essential at this point. To help users make informed provider selections and to provide effective service even under challenging conditions, ChainLink offers reputation and security monitoring services. The solution will include properties of an ideal oracle as the roadmap for a comprehensive security strategy, data-source infrastructure, modifications and likely improvements in future that could include richly featured oracle programming, leading to highly secure and efficient smart-contract execution.
For smart contracts to be externally aware and capable of interacting with off-chain resources, they will need to replace the digital agreements that are in use today. ChainLink is capable of operating as a fully decentralized network, which differentiates it from most other oracle solutions in the market. The foolproof quality value in smart contracts must be extended to the seamless operation between these smart contracts and the APIs they rely on and this decentralized approach will eventually limit the risk-prone trust in any single party.
